Chopard Baselworld 2019 preview

Chopard Baselworld 2019 Preview

It is almost that time of the year again when the whole planet seems to come down to a small Swiss town on the borders with France and Germany. The world-famous watch and jewellery fair Baselworld will welcome its visitors in Basel on March 21. We will take a look at Chopard and the preview the Maison shared today.

Precious Lace

Maison has created two pairs of hoop earrings in 18-carat white gold, diamonds and titanium. The first features diamonds and the second – sapphires, emeralds and diamonds. The ethereal lightness of these four precious stone guipures is achieved thanks to titanium. At times it appears as if this light material simply vanishes under the gemsetting.

L.U.C Flying T Twin

This is Chopard’s first calibre with a flying tourbillon. The timepiece feartures a hand-guilloché gold dial and an ultra-thin case (7.2 mm) in 18-carat ethically certified “Fairmined” rose gold. Additionally, this chronometer-certified movement also features a stop-seconds device. It is extremely rare on a tourbillon and it enables perfectly accurate time-setting.

A flying tourbillon is characterised by the absence of an upper bridge and is naturally slimmer due to being supported from underneath. Calibre 96.24-L is just 3.30 mm thick. It is the same size as the first Chopard Manufacture movement, Calibre 96.01-L, from which it has evolved. This refined 50-piece limited series is certified by the “Poinçon de Genève” quality hallmark.

Happy Hearts

The Happy Hearts collection now welcomes two new cocktail pendants in 18-carat rose gold. Mother-of-pearl hearts of different sizes form a bouquet, among which is another distinctive small heart. Equipped with a diamond dancing between two sapphire crystals, this stands out as a signature of the Maison Chopard. This pendant comes in two sizes.

Mille Miglia 2019 Race Edition

In 2018, Chopard celebrated three decades of partnership with the Mille Miglia race, “la corsa più bella del mondo” which happens over a 1,600 km loop running from Brescia to Rome and back. The Mille Miglia 2019 Race Edition model features an all-steel case and issued as a 1,000-piece limited edition.

This model is powered by a self-winding chronograph movement whose accuracy is certified by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC) for a full two-day power reserve. The strap lining features a Dunlop 1960s tyre-tread motif ensuring maximum wearer comfort. The watch features a 44 mm case with a screw-in back and water resistance guaranteed to 100 metres.

L’Heure du Diamant

L’Heure du Diamant is the story of an encounter between the Chopard watch and jewellery crafts. The Manufacture has created three original models of this watch. Each model carries a mechanical self-winding movement: the 09.01-C calibre developed and produced in its Manufacture. Chopard artisans have created a crown setting for each diamond adorning the bezel, highlighting the stones. This technique of limiting the visibility of the setting prongs ensures maximum exposure of the gems.

Depending on the watch, the dials feature opal, malachite or the deep blue lapis lazuli. Overall, L’Heure du Diamant embodies the encounter between the Maison’s two centres: watchmaking savoir faire and jewellery-making virtuosity.
