While Viktor & Rolf presented their collection in a whimsical manner, Guo Pei opted for a trip to Savannah, and Christophe Josse spent a magical night in Paris. Here is what happened on Day 3 of Paris Haute Couture Week Online.
Firstly, the final day of Haute Couture Week Online proved to be a little less active than the previous two. Maison Margiela and Valentino both announced their shows would be later in July, while Franck Sorbier and Elie Saab have pushed theirs to September. It’s clear that the current circumstances have affected some fashion houses more than others, but let’s see what we got now.
Guo Pei presented a beautiful collection inspired by the African Savannah. The collection uses piñatex – a natural, leather alternative material made from cellulose fibres extracted from pineapple leaves; as well as felt. The latter is meticulously used to create gorgeous illustrations of zebras, giraffes, leopards and other majestic beasts of Africa. Guo Pei adds her signature embroideries on the animals to highlight their features. It’s a little bit odd, however, to see a collection of Savannah without much diversity in casting.
If you ever wondered how Paris looked when everyone is asleep, Christophe Josse got you covered. His latest presentation saw two beautiful women spend the night wondering around the French capital in timeless Haute Couture. This season’s collection plays with white and crème, while painstakingly-made patterns of embroidery add layers and textures to the looks. There was a visit to Place Dauphine, then Jardin du Palais Royal culminating at the iconic Trocadero at dawn.
Finally, Viktor & Rolf delivered a whimsical presentation of nine looks that were annotated by Mika. The collection divided into three sections: gloomy, mixed feelings and unconditional love. Each of the sets featured a robe – for the moments of self isolation, perhaps. There were emojis, hearts and cones attached to the dresses. It felt quintessentially Viktor & Rolf, it was relevant and fun.
