Here is the thing about Issey Miyake, there is an undeniable sense of excitement and unpredictability before each show. One simply does not know what to expect, except the unexpected. This season the show was at the Lycée Carnot – a venue that many other major fashion houses use including Valentino, John Galliano, Paul Smith and now, Issey Miyake. Sticking to tradition, the show was accompanied by an artist, this time Hiroko Sebu with the accompaniment of a synthesiser.
The collection started off with the looks featuring the house’s famous flexible textile, Dough Dough that included a wool-like fibre in its fabric mix. The models came out from the centre in pairs before splitting to the sides and walking in triangular-shaped patterns.
However, the real reveal was Issey Miyake’s new fabric Blink, which resembled the Bao Bao bags. The fabric looked like it was made of triangle pieces that moved naturally, yet structurally precise. I could not get my eyes off it. It looked futuristic, kaleidoscopic and simply irresistible. Overall, this collection is yet another triumph for the house, as it has, yet again, shown its ability to stay unique and fashion-forward.
