The first time I saw the work of Kristina Fidelskaya was in the end of 2015 on the Palm Island in Dubai. I remember being at an intimate presentation at a French-inspired beach restaurant where the models wore mostly white and Kristina appeared to be very hands-on during the whole show. She stood right at the backstage door, peeking every now and then at the models and appearing rather nervous. Fast forward to now and it is a whole other story. This time Kristina showed her collection at the Parisian Pavillon Cambon Capucines – a venue often used by Elie Saab – and it felt far more mature and evolved.
For autumn/winter’19 Kristina found her inspiration in the Wall Street of the 90s. She took the energy of an urban woman who expresses herself through her style. Her heroine is strong, professional and in total control of her own destiny. The collection is called « Happiness » and the name is reflected in the energy that runs through the collection. I particularly liked the use of red, camel and pink. Materials and textures add the touch of elegance and sheer comfort. There are fluid silk shirts, structured dresses and coats in wool flannel. There is a strong essence of the 90s with made-to-measure coats, oversized slouchy shoulders, and sheath dresses.
“In my creative process, I always want to create garments that are real and easy to wear. For the first part, I can only imagine what my collection will look like, so when I see my vision of the modern- day woman come alive on the models, it puts a big smile on my face, it makes me so happy.” – Kristina Fidelskaya.
