Coronavirus: how far is 1km from your home?

In line with the new government regulations, every person’s movements have been further limited in France. Édouard Philippe announced that it is now possible to leave home for one hour a day within the 1km perimeter. So how far is 1km?

This French site offers an excellent tool. It allows anyone living in France to determine how far they can be from home. The site offers you to view this authorised perimeter around your home. Just enter your address and the name of your town.

A quick reminder, leaving home is prohibited except in the following cases and only on condition that an attestation dérogatoire is provided:

Travel between the home and the place of work, when they are essential and cannot be organised in the form of telework.

Leaving home to purchase supplies necessary for professional activity and purchases of basic necessities. This includes free acquisitions and travel related to the receipt of social benefits and the withdrawal of cash.

Consultations and care that are not possible remotely and are non-deferrable. Care of patients with long-term conditions.

Travel for compelling family reasons, for assistance to vulnerable people or childcare.

Brief trips, within the limit of one hour daily and within a maximum perimeter of 1 km. Individual physical activity is possible, with the exception of any collective sports. Walking pets is possible.

Judicial or administrative summons.

Participation in missions of general interest at the request of the administrative authority.
