Mulberry bans exotic skins from its collections

One after the other, brands announce initiatives to stop using animal products in their collections. This time it is Mulberry who has said they would not be using exotic leather in their collections. Following Chanel, Paul Smith, Victoria Beckham and Dian von Furstenberg, Mulberry has launched this initiative which will start with its Spring/Summer 2020 collection. PETA has confirmed the brand’s commitment to stop using alligator, crocodile, ostrich, lizard and snake skins.

Mulberry’s Director of Sustainable Development, Rosie Wollacott stated, “We have spent a great deal of time determining and then continually reviewing our sustainability measures and targets. At an early stage in this process, we decided not to use exotic skins in our collections, and that remains our position.”

Indeed, it would be even better if more brands stopped using animal products altogether, but some action is better than none. After all, this announcement follows Mulberry’s earlier commitment to stop using animal fur.
